It refers to the front and rear bank of cylinders or spark plugs on the engine.

On the 6-cylinder engine, the front cylinders are at the front of the car under a black plastic cover and the rear cylinders are along the back firewall of the engine area.

Thanks, that it what I thought, but I wasn't sure. However why would the front cylinders be running lean and the back ones not if there was a vacuum leak. Is that possible?
