I noticed that only one of my fans is functioning, only the right one (passenger side) seems to function. I've read several posts and correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't both supposed to be on?

Ok...now a follow-up. I've noticed that my car is indeed running hotter now...the needle now hovers around the "M" instead of the "R". I'm guessing this is due to the fan not functioning. Now...if the engine gets too hot...would this cause the A/C Compressor to turn off? I've noticed that after driving about a half hour, the A/C Compressor turns off.

I've asked this question before but I never received an answer, so here it goes. If the car is hot....lets say it's been running for 20 minutes on a warm day....with the car off.....what should the low pressure gauge read to make the A/C function properly? Is 100 PSI too high? Is 70 too low? What's happening is my A/C Compressor will blip on for a second then never come on again, so I tried adjusting the freon but I don't know the baseline for the pressure.

So what I'd like to know...is pressure cold when ambient temperature is say.....70.

Pressure when car is on but A/C off with 20 minutes of driving...

Pressure when car is off with 20 minutes of driving.

Thanks..........

Early models had a low speed fan and a hi-speed fan, the latter coming on with a/c on. Hi-speed fan may also come on, when a/c off, if coolant temp continues to rise after the lo-speed fan comes on, but not sure on this point for your car.
Some models BTW were only equipped with a single 2 speed fan.

I'll leave your pressure questions for others.

IIRC, I think the low pressure gauge should be in the 25-40 range, depending on various factors. Don't hold me to this, since I'm going from memory, but I think that 70-100 is quite a bit too high. Some of our CEG'ers are AC experts, and I'm sure they can give you some precise info, but maybe this will give you some help in the meantime.

it is funny that you say that mystique. my a/c fan does not work cuz of a bad wire i think or wire harness which was a recall that never got done on my car. anyways the driver side one i think is to cool the engine and the other one is to cool the a/c i dont know if this helps but its info for someone heh

Thanks guys....Ryno....that sounds like what mine does.....only the passenger side seems to function...and it's freaking hot down here!!!

As for the pressure....if anyone has a pressure gauge....and a functioning cold A/C.......could someone run outside and test their car HOT, COLD and HOT with A/C on???

Please.....pretty please!!!!

Thanks!!

I checked and filled my system last week and found that if the AC is off, the pressure on the low side was real high. (Like 60+) When the AC is on, the compressor runs and there is a big difference between the low and high sides. Normal for AC on was like 25-30 on my guage once I had enough fluid in.

When my fluid was low the compressor clutch would not stay engaged and the idle would surge by 200 rpm each time it disengaged. The low side pressure was < 15.
