Early models had a low speed fan and a hi-speed fan, the latter coming on with a/c on. Hi-speed fan may also come on, when a/c off, if coolant temp continues to rise after the lo-speed fan comes on, but not sure on this point for your car.
Some models BTW were only equipped with a single 2 speed fan.
