personally i say, no you don't have a chance...why do I say that? probably because your car is slower than Foci and other tours and even if u have good suspension...thats not gonna make up for the power loss
Here's a thought, though...Go out and enjoy yourself. Win or lose. If you do well, that would be great. If you get your ass handed to you, smile like you saw it coming, and laugh about it over a few beers later. Just have some fun. That's the key.

I don't think I go against Contour V6es in the class I'm in, actually... just 4 cylinder competitors. I think I stand a decent chance against them..?

In the late 70's early '80's I autoxed in a stock Fiat 128SL with a 1.3L(!), and skinny 13inch tires. I was consistently able to hold my own against greatly superior forces. Autox is more a test of driver skill. Just go have fun thrashing that GL around!
I'm here for a good time, not a long time.

There are several 6 cylinder cars in H-stock. My '96 Olds Cutlass was in H stock (3.1L, ATX), and I know for a fact I could kick Zetec Tour butt at will. Face it, you're gonna get smoked.
Changing wheel size will also take you out of stock. As will any of the other mods you've mentioned. You can't cherry pick parts from certain models, it's all or nothing. If you want to stay in H stock and have a chance then buy a set of auto-x tires.
Just go out, trash your car, and have a few laughs. If you really cared about winning, you'd put on some pants and take the SVT.

In retrospect, it was all downhill from here. RIP, CEG.

Actually, air filter upgrades and different tire/wheel sizes (as long as they were options on your car) are allowed. Those were the only mods I mentioned. You're right, I don't care about winning - I just want to have fun, I was just curious how Contour GLs do generally in AutoX. I also figure once I get past the learning curve I'll outfit the SVT with some better tires and take that out for a spin. Anyone happen to AutoX in the bay area?
