I fired up my second 3L tonight, caught right away - I'm pretty happy. I have all the vacuum lines connected, but I still need to reroute them to a final location. Still need to hook up the throttle cables, adapt the IAC (Using the stock 3L location now), and get the intake stuffed in. Plus do something about my waterpump cam pulley. I saw that it had a little ding in it, but it turns out to be a serious wobble. Time to go back to the yard I got the motor from, I guess. The pulley should be replaceable without ripping anything else out, right? So, once all that's done there'll be a 1995 Mystique Young America driving around with a complete 2001 3L inside.

I was under the impression you need a special press to install the pulley. (It's heat pressed on)
Also you may not be able to do it on the vehicle!!!

Time for a hammer! If the shaft is fine but the pulley is bent off-center, grab a rubber mallet and see if you can align it. If that doesn't work try a metal hammer carefully, and if that doesn't work... Bend over and kiss your Asz goodbye. warmonger

How about trying a "dead-blow" hammer instead?

Well, I wasn't having much luck with a hammer, I rechecked the Ford CD and it indicates you can install the pulley with just a "special pulley installer tool" - which looks to be an M8-1.25x40 bolt. So, I pulled the pulley and ordered a new one to the tune of $14. As far as I can tell, the cam is ok - I certainly hope so, because we all know pulling that is a major PITA. Find out tomorrow if installing a new pulley is that much easier.

Well the journals and caps were probably still good until you beat on the end of the cam with a Ford tool. That can't have been good for anything internal!
