I'm having a problem with my remote keyless entry. Everything works except the trunk button. I can hear the clicking under the dash when I press the trunk button and the dome light does go on...it just doesn't open the trunk. If I close the trunk really hard...I can hear a click and then the keyless entry works. The interior (drivers side) release lever works fine. It's not the key flob because I have the same problem with both
I have an appointment at Ford this coming Wednesday to have a bearing replaced (under warranty) and I asked them to look at the remote keyless entry at the same time. They told me that if the problem wasn't "electrical" it's not covered. They tell me sometimes they have to install a modification (spring) in the trunk locking mechanism. I don't want a modification to something they didn't design properly. I want the damn thing to work like it came from the factory. I know how these clowns work...a $0.35 spring can quickly move up the ladder to a $200.00 repair.
I purchased the Ford Premium Care warranty and according to my warranty booklet...the remote keyless entry "system" is covered. What kind of BS are these clowns handing me.

For continuity I am giving link to your keyless entry post: http://www.contour.org/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=007294
I wasn't aware that your car was still under warranty, so obviously troubleshooting info is redundant as dealer will do it. If you stand at rear of car and operate trunk button on your remote you should hear clunk when solenoid operates. Trunk lid should move up a liitle freeing it from latch and allowing you to open by hand. In some cases solenoid will operate but trunk lid will not spring up enough to release from latch. I believe decompression of weather stripping is what provides upward force. In the case of my spoiler equipped '98 the additional weight seems to be culprit. Ford sells spring to be installed next to lid latch to pop trunk further up, thereby releasing. I bought mine after warranty, but in your case it should be covered if that is the problem. If solenoid is repaired under warranty and trunk lid opens satisfactorily you will not get add on spring. My '97, with no spoiler, operates OK without add-on spring.

Thanks horseydug When I stand behind the car I can't hear the mechanism work at all. Normally I hear the unit engage and the trunk moves upward slightly and then I simply lift the lid up. There is no sound coming from the rear at all unless I open the lid using my key and slam the lid hard...then I hear something move (like a dull thud) and then the keyless entry works just once and then in order to get it to work again...I have to slam the trunk again....not a good way to operate.
The Ford dealer here in Montreal is jerking me around with this and I even phoned the Ford Canada 1-800 customer line. They were useless as well.
I think I have a fight on my hands next week when I take it in for repairs.

Not familiar with "Premium care" coverage, but the "keyless entry" is not working. Sounds like something sticking in latch/solenoid area and the spring I referred to is not the solution. Stick to your guns on this, and remember you can always try another dealer.
Please keep us posted on final outcome.

Horseydug...
FYI
The Ford Premium Care extended warranty covers the entire car bumper to bumber excluding paint, glass, surface rust, light bulbs/wipers, exterior door handles, spark plugs, friction parts brakes / clutch / tires, shocks, exhaust system and fluids. It says my keyless entry is covered.

The trunk solenoid IS an electrical gizmo and IS covered under the warranty. IF you can pop your trunk from the inside lever ok... just not with the remote... IT'S COVERED. If the lever by the drivers seat floor will NOT open the trunk... Then ???
