hey when its early like this- just drop the pan and change the rod bearing- should be about a 1 hour ish job- If you know which one it is- if not figure about 2 hours to replace all six. Really- its fairly easy to do it.
but only if there is no collateral damage.

it should be that easy, im takin the hard road, and pulling the whole motor and trans, figure i might as well check everything while im at it. but i would atleast check your bearings, even if your doin the 3l thing! dont want it to break when you not close to home, and it just might save your motor, so you can sell it to me!!!!! i dont care what anyone says, im goin to find away to amke over 300 fwhp out of one of these things, if it kills me(n/a, then maybe over 400 with my baby bottle)!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmmm, my car still is "back to normal". I hope.......I WANT my 2.5 to last until it's pulled. I'll have to seriously consider changing the bearings out now before they weld themselves like Scots E0 engine did.

hey just wanted to say, i pulled the motor(now thats a major pain in the arse), and it turned out that i lost the #1 rod bearing, and that was it!!! the crank was fine, thank you god!!! figure ill gut the cats while its out, but just so you know, it really wasnt that bad at this stage of the bearing goin out. all the other rod bearings were fine, but the still getting changed. i figure better safe then sorry! but just thought id let ya know, and if ya need a hand with anyuthing, im now pretty well educated in this process on these motors, although it was a crash course! let me know if ya want a hand, its really no problem.

Right on! I'll probably need a hand when I do my 3L swap, but this is cake. Thanks for the offer though!

I want to gut my precats also, and since I have to take the Y-pipe off to do the pan anyway.....I'll hold off until next weekend to them along with the rod bearings.

I'll have to pick up some clevite 77 bearings and some new rod bolts as they are TTY's , and an oil pan gasket.

you can get the Clevite 77 bearings at checker, but the rod bearings are the only ones available at this time. Federal Mogal (?SP?) makes good main bearings, and checker didn't seem to have them. I know of a place in Salt Lake called Page Brake, and they are a Fed Mog dealer....so if Napa doesn't have them..Page can get them if they don't have them in-stock.

Even more bad news-

I had my stereo up a bit and when I took off from the light I had the RPM's way off and got MAD wheel hop (I was taking off sane too, I think with the added wheel size and a 1/2 bad half shaft added to it a ton) and now there is a grinding "feel" as the car drives along and there is a loss in power. I'm tempted to try out a new axel from Pep-Boys as I'll need one anyway despite if it's my swiss cheese trans or not. Cross your fingers cause if it's bad, I'll be getting a ride in a Honda to RMR this friday if it
s the transmission/diff..

HMS to the rescue!!!!!!!!!

[Rant on]

Damn, I should've went through him! I've been running around trying to get them today. Pepboys deals with them, but won't special order anything they don't stock through Clevite.
I did get a new CV axel, so now I can cook either side with an easy mind since I have a "lifetime warranty" on each side now. It was like a one time fee to get free rebuilt half shafts until I can afford the ?$700? stage III type.

Napa doesn't have the rod bearings in their system and they couldn't put in a special order into their computer because of it. So I'll have to swing in tomarrow so they can call it in.

I was going to hit up Checker as they usually can get whatever I need.......damn rain.

And the final polish off my rant, I finally got a deep socket 10mm. I have 2 of every other side, but not one 10mm (until now that is ).

[Rant off]

Edit:
Just called Checker to put an order in as they do normally have them, but they wouldn't do an over the phone CC transaction. I should get my bearings by friday.....
