It's the smaller version of a stock Mitsubishi Starion intercooler. There's plenty of room in the Cougar for a FMIC, but the piping is the problem. If you notice on the left side of the pic, the pipe is routed under the frame/radiator support. It's the only way to get the pipe under that without cutting or removing the bumper. On the right side the pipe is routed under the AC condensor, there's just enough room to get squease it in. Running the pipes like this is the only way we could do it easy and it rarely scrapes even with Roush springs and a lower profile tire. It's doable for the zetecs but with the limited space in the V6...?

Ah Seawulf....where you been. Hows your car? I know the FMI will work on the Cougar. I had to prove it to ALL the naysayers on the Neco forums.I just want to see if the Contour has the same amount of room.
Have you ever thought about putting the Focus SVT motor trans(6-speed) in your Cougar...since its blown. Sorry, way off topic.

An SVT motor would be too costly and too difficult to install. Plus the higher compression on the SVT motor would make turboing it up more difficult. From what I hear the 6 speed isn't much better than the 5 speed just has an extra gear.
Even just swapping in a used stock motor was a pain. Found a stock used motor for $315 and just swapped it in. Took about a week cause we messed up the first time and had to pull the motor and swap crank position housings then put the motor back in.
I'm running on 7psi which is a bit much for stock fuel and timing, even with 93 oct. I've been having trouble with the chips streetflight has been sending, they don't work for some reason. Aside from that the car runs like it did before.

I know this is an old thread that I am reviving, but I think you can all excuse me because of my absence? Anyway, why not run an air/water unit, and pipe the water/air heat exchanger to the rear of the car, under the bumper. On the SVT, you have that mesh screen in the rear bumper. Mount the exchanger in front of that (not visible from the outside of the car). You should even have room to mount up a temp controlled electric fan and/or some kind of air scoop under the car to help the cooling effect. Imagine standing behind the car and feeling all that heat blast you in the face. The water lines should be fairly easy to run, and all you need is an electric water pump. Doesn't the SF kit include one? Would it be strong enough to pump the water all the way back there?

I just mounted my heat exchanger behind the front fascia. The pump that ADC supplies is more than enough.

would it be enough to pump the water to a heat exchanger at the rear facia?

Yes the water mixture wouldn't reach 12 psi for 5 seconds. Oh wait. Water isn't compressible...

Um, no, we are not extending the air intake any, just the water lines to dump the charge heat at the rear of the car, where there is a lot more room. Given that this should actually increase the amount of water available for cooling due to the longer lines, you should actually have more consistant inlet temps.

I see what you're saying. Musta misread that first q of yours. I think cawong11 and buckshot77 are running their resovoirs in their trunks. I'm pretty sure wavrdr had his in the trunk as well. I guess as long as the pump can handle it, it's a great idea. My contributions to this thread have been minimal to negligent...
