I just discovered my trunk release button on my remote keyless entry key flob doesn't work. The lock / unlock and panic buttons work fine. When I press the trunk button I can hear the clicking in the module under the dash but my trunk doesn't release. The trunk opens fine with a key and from the release lever on the floor beside the drivers seat.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

Is it an aftermarket keyless entry?

The mechanism may be faulty.I had mine replaced about 800000 kms ago.Same symptoms. It still dysfunctions at times, especially when quite cold out.
The mechanism may be sticking and might just require some lubrication.

What about the enable/disable lever down at the latch assembly? Check you owners manual.

My owners manual doesn't say anything about the disable feature for the keyless entry. The red switch in the trunk mechanism only disables the inside lever from opening the trunk.

Thanks anyway

Ford repaired my remote keyless entry under warranty but not without a fight as well as several calls to Ford customer service. The dealership insisted there was nothing wrong with the remote except for a spring replacement. When I took the car in I showed the service advisor what the problem was
- keyless remote wouldn't work on trunk
- inside lever worked fine
- key worked fine
When I called Thursday about my car, they told me I had to pay for the repair ($80.00 taxes included). I argued with everyone at Ford CS I could grab and when I got to the dealer, they honored the warranty.... advising me this was a "good will gesture"...and the part still wasn't covered.

What a load of crap!

Glad to hear you stuck to your guns on this, what an idiotic response by dealer. Bumper to bumper, extended coverage means just that, with the exception of normal wear items (e.g. brake pads) and perhaps physical adjustments. The latter are usually only covered for a short time with the normal factory warranty.
I think I would try out another dealer in the future.

p.s. Did they replace latch, solenoid and/or install spring add-on?
