It either switches or it doesn't. If my TC was locked all the time, my car would shut off not long after starting and if it was not locking, I would see some decrease in gas mileage, might find that I have to work a little harder to get up hills and a surgeing feeling."

I have seen a decrease in the gas mileage! I have not found that I have to work harder to get up hills. The car has plenty of power. I have had a surging from time to time when I would be taking off it stared surging just about every time I take off then the tranny problems stared.

Would you go ahead and do the pressure test or try something else first???

If I was sitting in front of the car in a shop... I would troubleshoot the code, P0743, and follow all twists and turns related to that. Then, only after I felt comfortable that I had exhausted all avenues related to the CEL, that I would start looking into the hydralic system through the use of pressure tests. The way I would approach the troubleshooting process, overall, would be to resolve all electrical problems, then hydraulic, then mechanical.

I guess if I had to "throw punches" at the way the mechanic was troubleshooting Momma's car, would be with the issue with the VSS and the fact that he shudged his shoulders in confusion and wanted to jump right in the hyraulic system. Why do I question this? You cann't fix an electrical problem through hydraulics.

Just my two cents and trying not to be so wordy.
