If its lash adjuster/follower it may damage the cams due to the slack and impact on the lobes..I suggest you pull the upper mnifold ,pop off the cam covers & inspect the cam lobes, followers(for 'flat spots' and damged rollers) you can check any bad lash adjusters with a feeler gage....
