Hi there, i am having problems with both my driver side and passenger window. i have noticed scratching along the edge of the window nearest to the door frame(up and down). they are long light scratches. i pulled the plastic seal away as best i could, but couldnt see any obstruction as the window goes down. there has to be something sticking out further in?? but why is this happening to both doors? has anybody else had this problem? i am in need of a cure. see attached pic. Thanks, Marty cardomain

I'm thinking it was more than likely causing by you or the previous owner putting the window down when it was dirty. I believe that is the case because mine is the same way. Don't know why it is close to the door frame on both sides though.

on our contour we see some scratches.. it looks like someone used a diamond to scratch the glass, but looking at the who thing and at the dust on the vehicle at times it is probably the dust particles that are getting caught in the rubber by the window and if its from an abrasive then it will do a number on your glass... i have several on just about each car we had over a period of time..... even on the TV set i guess we just pushed in and wiped the dust off instead of wiping off the glass to get rid of the dust.... the insides of the windows in the garage even have it, looks like someone with a diamond ring went to town on the glass.. guess we did it after i used an emery wheel in the garage to cut something with the dremel tool.....

I have noticed the same problem on my Contour....Actually one of my windows broke, so I put a new one in, and it isa doing the same thing....I asked the glass guy about it, and he was most unhelpful, but I think we're up a creek as far as the scratches go.

Same Thing over here, I found out that the black strip on the outside of the window has "rock" type things inside of it (where it meets the window) and with age the edge opens up allowing these to come out and scratch the window as it goes up or down. I had to take the strip off and with a screwdriver scrape the inside to pull most of the rocks out. You can then use pliers to close the opening. Window seems to move smoother also, still left with previous scratches.

this happened to me as well. didn't help that i removed by run channels and rolled the windows down temporarily which lead to them banging against the metal of the inside door. Now my windows are really screwed. Do any of you know of a good place besides Ebay, Bill Jenkins or Car-part.com that offers replacement windows for cheap?

BBContourSVT: Mine is the exact same way, when i pull the rubber weather strip back a little, i can see some corrosion going on. I think that every time i roll the window down, these particles act like sand paper, scratching the window. I am going to try and put some double face tape and then a layer of sand paper, and then roll the window down. hopefully whatever is in the way will dislodge or get shaved off? will let you know how this goes.
p.s. my girlfriend thinks i am weird when i open my door at a toll station, lol.
