The OEM Ford 6x8 speakers aren't the absolute worst on the planet. They're not great, but with a sub you can tune it to sound ok until you can afford to replace the 6x8s.

I'd say go for the sub. If you're not too far away from me I can stop by and show you my setup so you can listen to my Lambda PB12. I also have Pioneer 6x8s, so you can compare and see which route you'd like to take.

EDIT: P.S. You should come to one of our "meets" and show off your ride. The only SVT that participates is Thinkmoto in Waukesha and his isn't legal to run on the road yet (salvage title).
