A fluid change may help but the flashing OD light usually indicates more serious problems. When you have the fluid changed make sure to use Mercon fluid. Some have had some success with adding some Lucas transmission conditioner to the fluid for smoother shifts. There is also an elecrical signal connector on top of the tranny that should be checked and reseated.
