OK, so I'm loving the car, but not the fuel economy. Here is what I plan to do. If you have any thoughts please tell me.

1. Replace the plugs; it's been seven years and 70km (I think). Plan to use Motorcraft??
2. New fuel filter!
3. I've already had the injectors cleaned. I don't think I'm ambitious enough to clean my LIM or UIM, and really don't want to pay a shop to do it. So I may try the Mr. Lube stuff (they say it cleans injectors, but is put in the vacume line, which makes me think???)
4. New O2 sensors! Only one is out of spec, but I was wondering what you all thought of using universals instead. I can have the all four done for the cost of two OEM ones. If you guys advise going this route, how many wires are the sensors!

THANKS,
D.

1. Yes, use motorcraft double platinums

2. Yes, always a good idea

3. No, your wrong. That mr. lube stuff is crap. You have to remove you TB, UIM, LIM, injectors, and give them all a good scrubbing. Do it yourself, there is no reason not to, and there is no other good way of doing it.

4. Univerisals should be fine as long as the threads & wire count are the same. I have to wonder if the plugs might be different though.

Not sure what you mean by out of spec. Most only replace O2 sensors if they are causing CEL on, rarely as preventative measure.

O2sensors are 4 wire, universal has pigtail to be spliced into existing wiring and usually at savings of under 10% per, vs aftermarket car specific.

One of my rear o2s misbehaves on the scope. It cycles between lean and rich, this is why I want to replace it. Thought I might nip this issue in the bud, rather that replace the sensors one every 10k. I can get universals for $52 each.

As for the Cleaning. How competent do I need to be to clean my TB, LIM and UIM? I understand what I need to do, but will I need new gaskets if I leave the LIM on? Most important. Is this nessasary at 70km.

Good price, even if you have to do a little wire splicing. Care to share mfr, part # and source? I presume ones for upstream/downstream use are different?

Why don't you start by inspecting/cleaning passages in UIM behind TB, condition there would let you judge if your curiousity level matched the work effort needed to go the next step.

At 70K you could use a good cleaning. It's not that hard to do. You may need new gaskets and you will definately need a torque wrench to do the job right. As well you will need the proper torquing sequence for the UIM bolts. This is a great job to do in the driveway with a group of guys haveing a few cold ones, even if one of them overtightens a bolt an snaps it .

OK, thanks for all the help. I will post the 02 info soon, I need to contact my guy on it.

On the UIM cleaning. Where could I find the torqing sequenceing, and the amount of torque to use?
