It doesn't matter if it is sugar. A calorie is a calorie, regardless of where it comes from. As long as you achieve a caloric deficit (burning off more than what you put in) you will lose weight.

On the subject of ephedrine, I have used it in the past with results but it was hard to measure those results because I was doing so many other things like exercising regularly and eating much healthier. If you went from not working out and eating bad to 2 slimfasts and a dinner, of course you are going to notice weight loss, regardless of the ephedrine. I found that ephedrine suppressed my appetite so I didn't want to eat as much and it also gave me the energy to get through my workouts better. Just drink plenty of water when you take that stuff
