I'm curious, is this a problem with the first batch only or are the redesigned ones doing the same thing?

really, after seeing all these posts about these disasters, why buy a vortech sc? It's like thir RD team was smoking cigaweeds when they designed stuff for the CSVT. . .retards. And why wouldn't they include an aftercooler system to cool down intake temp's on a car that's got such a high CR anyways???
WHY??
The only advantage I see of owning one of these is that it's quieter than the SF turbo (I'm assuming) since the there's no BOV, there's just a bypass valve (they seem like the same thing, but BOV's are so LOUD).
Stazi-your car undriveably loud now?

1 - Not everyone has the extra $1800 to buy a turbo kit and it is a relatively new kit The vortech has been around for a few years so they have more sales
2 - Yes
3 - Cost and the fact the car is no longer produced, why spend R&D (regardless of quality) time on a car that had limited production and has very limited number of people willing to spend X amount of dollars on a kit this expensive.
Call ricers what you want, but import owners spend alot more money on their cars then CSVT owners. Alot more boosted imports running out there....how many Vortech kits are out there 15-20 max?? how many Zetec Turbo's are out there (contours - 0 / Focus - few, getting larger though)
How many SF turbo's were sold, I think they have 4. See the pattern....
Vortech's mistake was the shaft not being stable, I am willing to bet (and am currently doing so) a bearing at the end where the two shafts meet will reduce "wobble" which is killing the shafts. We are talking about a shaft 5/8" dia (IIRC) spinning 15K rpms with only one support over a two foot length. If it is not dead nuts center you are going to kill shafts left and right.

i just talked to my mechanic, he seems to think that the bosch bypass valve may have caused my drive splines to strip. By not releasing the boost the supercharger had big back pressure which could have caused the stripping. What do you guys think?

back loading is possible, but the bypass is ually overactive and almost always releasing so I am not sure how applicable that could be.

maybe Rick's new and improved bypass will help alleviate that problem. . .
KNUKonceptz-good points, I guess we're lucky they even built something for us. . .I guess target audience for the car is what affected who buys what. Thing with ricers is that their engines are anemically powered, so blowing it is the only option, and since the market is so large, more can do it for cheaper (installation included, a lot more rice shops here in Houston than domestic). CSVT owners are usually happy with the bolt ons, since it's powerful enough already, and unjusitifiable to drop thousands to squeeze out 50% more potential at the cost of sanity. The only thing I would disagree with is the price, because It looks like sc owners spend nearly $7k on getting it purchased and installed, while the it would cost $5.8k for the turbo including installation over in phoenix(which is worth the drive).

here is the jackshaft. It's hard to see the pics, but you can see how stripped it is and where the splines start again. I can reach my pinky in there and you can't feel any traces of splines, it's like they were never there....

You can hardly even hear his exhaust....at low rpms anyhow.

Is the drive shaft centered in your outer housing? (looking from the SC mount side)Mine was almost touching one side of the housing. If this is not centered it will obviously create a pressure point on certain splines. That will cause premature wear. And if Vortech uses the SC spline to "center" the shaft inside the housing that is what is causing the failure. I hope to get my SC back within the next 10 days from the machine shop. I'll post pics and see what they can do if anyone else is interested in getting the kit fixed properly.
