Sup Fellas i just got a 95 mercury mystique (4 cyl, 2.0) and i got a few problems which i knew about and knew were fixable but i need a few pointers...

I think the tranny is just about shot or something is messed up with it cuz it dont shift untill like 5000 rpms or if i let my foot of the gas it will shift, any suggestions there?

And just today the engine seems to not have that much power, when i put my foot on the gas it takes a few seconds for it to go, it is like a delays reaction, i put new spark plugs and wires and a new fuel filter on and it didnt fix it so i have no clue, so i need some help there.... other than that the car seems to be fine, i only bought the car for a grand cuz the guy didnt know what was wrong with it but i figured if i had to put 500-700 dollars worth of work into it, it would run for a few years and i would get my moneys worth and alot more, but anyways can you please give me some pointers thx alot buys

I'm no expert, but i'd say that throttle delay is probably just a sticky throttle...try cleaning it (the backside (facing the upper intake manifold) is usally caked with gunk). As for the tranny, i had that problem once, it turned out that my tansmission fluid was low, and the vent tube for the tranny was blocked (cough..chris hightower..cough..)in my v6, the tube is in front of and to the left, and about 6 inches below of the battery (its about a 1/4" ribbed tube), i dunno about the I-4 (chris "accidentaly" plugged it onto the battery and it ended up spiting up all the tranny fluid trying to shift). any way, thats all i got...sorry i'm not a ford engineer.

I think you have tranny problems that may exceed your estimate. Take it to shop(s) for estimate(s) while you are still mobile.

Sounds like your VSS is either bad or on it's way out. There is a little sensor on the left side of the tranny. Look behind the driver's side wheel. If your computer doesn't know how fast you are going, it doesn't know when to shift.

Coincidence, my '87 Mercedes 190 started doing the same thing today (shifting late)! Fluid was low, 1/2 quart solved the problem.

My '95 2.0 would not start either. Replaced the fuel filter and that took care of the problem.
