As long as I'm posting...

I've got a few speakers custom-installed in all four doors (components, front and rear) that required adapter plates. However much that has to do with this problem, I don't know, but there's an obscene rattling noise that comes from all four doors anytime you crank up the bass. Everything else is otherwise perfect. (Don't let anyone tell you that a pair of good 6x9s in the package tray will do anything other than good).

So is there any way to limit or eliminate the rattling?

I wonder if you were to unhook 3 speakers, and then take the door panels off all 4 doors. Play the music with the bass and physically see & touch the innards of the door as it's playing.
The vibration may be just the entire door structure vibrating to the music, and not a loose piece or rattle.
But, if you can find it and by touching it or pressing against it, it goes away you might be able to add some foam padding or something similar to press against it when the door panel is replaced.
Just a thought

Well, I've finally discovered the connection between every problem I've been having with my speakers... I can't believe I didn't figure this out on day one.

I peeled the door panel off of the front driver's side door (the location where most of the rattling occured)... lo and behold, the adapter plate for the 5.25" component speaker was broken on the bottom end! The speaker was actually just sitting in the original 6x8 hole.

So now,

1. It's no wonder it was rattling. That was the sound of the adapter plate loosening before breaking...

2. It's no wonder my amp was shorting with the speaker sitting in a hole, attached to nothing.

3. It's no wonder high volume+bass caused a short just the same as hitting a speed bump.

I'm just glad the speaker survived this onslaught. Score another one for Alpine.
