Figures. So anyway I talk to the local dealer parts dept. and the person said that he always has the resistor and the pigtail in stock and it would cost me about $60-$70 total. Does that figure sound correct?
Can I just buy the resistor and not worry about the pigtail. I am figuring that the pigtail is nothing to worry about, since it is not recalled?
Thanks for all your help. Can't find my receipt right now, so not sure if that is good price or not. Anyway, I did this about 8 months ago, so price may have changed. In my case, the connector had gotten so hot that it melted a couple of wires and part of the connector, so replacing the pig-tail was a must. I checked the resistor with an ohmeter and it seemed to be ok, just burned the connector up!

Had been wanting to get in there myself, but now I'll have a new resistor ready, and also see if I can figure out the smell. I know it has to do with the resistor, because I only get the smell while running the blower on low. The various speeds have always worked alright otherwise. Lately I've been noticing a "hot smell" after driving to or from work, about twenty mins. or so. It seems most noticable when I stop at a light, or pull into the driveway. I run the fan on 1 or 2 usually, and the smell seems to come from the center dash vents. Is this what you guys experienced? All fan speeds still work. Last September I took the car in for the 01S22 recall. They checked the resistor and said it was fine. Suppose now it's not?

A hot smell after stopping at a light, etc. can be from oil spilled near the exhaust during an oil filter change. I've learned to do it myself, wiping all the spills carefully. Once underway, the smell goes some other direction. My "resistor" smell comes after I restart the car, after being stopped for 5-10 minutes.

It's been almost 3,000 miles since the last oil/filter change. I would think anything spilled would have burned off by now. This afternoon when I got home from work I left the engine idling and took a look/sniff under the hood. No odors, smoke or anything. The smell only seems to come through the vents. I tried turning on the heat and then the a/c. The smell was slightly better...maybe just the changes in temp. The smell also seemed to subside when I ran the blower on high. I just wondered if your symptoms were similar. Got to make an appointment for an oil change anyway, might as well make them check the resistor/wire again. Thanks for the response.

Just happened to me this afternoon. The AC only blows at the lowest speed. Nothing happens when I move the switch to the other higher speeds.
Is this problem under an extended warranty for a 95 model?

Let me add so there won't be confusion.
On this and similar discussions, the symptoms seem to be that the blower only blows high. Mine now only blows as if it's on the lowest speed. Is it the same issue, problem, covered by the extended warranty?
