Hello CEGrs. My wiring harness was replaced by my dealership as a result of engine fire damage. Can you think of any reason they had to discharge my A/C to replace the wiring harness? Do you have to lower the radiator to replace the harness and because the A/C components are in the way in doing that the A/C needs to be discharged? I want to educate myself before going back to the dealership and telling them, "Hey, recharge my A/C you turkeys." I want to understand why it was discharged in the first place. Thanks much, as always.

from what i read, i think they do discharge the a/c.

download the 99m03.zip from MystiqueSVT's web site, unzip, and search for "air conditioning".

You're absolutely right - I just got my car back from the dealership (95 SE MTX) asking for the wiring harness recall and for them to investigate an intermittent A/C problem.

They asked for $1198 to replace the Compressor/Evaporator/Accumulator. And, when I picked up the car today, the A/C wasn't working at all - checked the pressure and it's dead empty.
After reading above, I checked the recall and it definately says to evacuate the A/C system as part of the process.

But this now makes me wonder - the electrical system is connected to the compressor to control the clutch. The dealer pronounced my 'problem' is the clutch wasn't consistently opening/closing to maintain proper pressure (no leaks that I knew of) - I wonder if my problem was the wiring harness and the A/C was damaged by the electrical system problem.

You take so many chances when you bring your car to them for this kind of work. They had my car a WEEK. According to the mechanic at Ford, they took my bumper, radiator (got a free flush at least), condenser (might have been the compresser-don't have the info right in front of me) and the power steering reservior out in order to put the new harness it. Initially when I got the car back, the engine sounded like it was missing every three seconds. But that problem worked itself out thankfully. You should be able to look at the receipt and find out exactly what they removed or fooled with.
