Anyone know if there are differences between the GL, SE, and SVT stock air filters?

The reason I ask is because mine needs changing, and the air filter my dealership recently gave me and the one that came with the car are different colors. The one I just recieved is white, while the stock filter is this yellow-orange color. There is a long number on the stock airfilter qualified by "Motorcraft", but it's fuzzyish and I can't read it.

I know it doesn't matter (a high flow air filter wouldn't add jack, horsepower-wise) as long as it fits, but I'm curious if I have the right part for my car.

Color of frame may only be a manufacturer's preference. My last FRAM for the '97 was orange. My '98 has an after- market black one. Both fit OK and I think that's what counts.

The SVT has a conical filter.

Non-SVT's have a panel filter.

No possible way to get them mixed up! laugh

Should have just bought a K&N drop-in and never worried about buying new filters again. wink (being as you seem to not like open air filters???)

Non-SVT's have a panel filter? I didn't know that.

I thought about the K&N, but I don't like the idea of an open-element airfilter during the winter.

I do like the idea that it'll last for "a million miles", if you take care of it.

Hmmm....does a K&N fit in the stock air box?

K&N makes a filter that drops right into the stock non-SVT airbox. You can get the part number from K&N's website.

Hence, "drop-in". Gotcha. All the ones I've seen are the open kind. I checked the K&N site and got the part# of the one that'll fit in the SVT air box, and then checked an online dealer to get a idea on the price- about $65. Quite a bit of money, but worth it, I suppose, since I plan on having my car for a long time.

Ha ha on me, I just noticed you have a SVT. At least you were smarter than me and realized that my answer was right either way. Hey, I drove 660 miles today from Kalamazoo, so I can be expected ot be a little off.
