I know we've talked about this a lot, but I still think there's something defective about a lot of these fans/sensors/controllers that makes the fan kick on at the A or L. I've got two 95 Zetecs. Both of them run at the R-M in winter, which tells me the thermostat and temperature gauge are the same on both of them. Both of them also run at R-M in warm weather, if I'm driving at highway speeds, when adequate cooling is coming from the air associated with the vehicle movement. In hot weather or slow driving, the fan on the Contour kicks on at the middle of the M, which holds the temperature at that point. However, the fan on the Mystique kicks on at the top of the L, and kicks back off at the top of the A. This tells me that there is something defective about my Mystique system, since it behaves entirely different from the identical Contour system. I've burned a lot of bridges at the Ford dealer, trying to get an explanation of why the two identical systems behave totally differently, unless one is defective.
