i replaced the rear pads not more than 3 months ago. now ive noticed that my front pads are running dangerously low and i have to replace them as well. when i do replace them this weekend, do i also have to bleed the rear calipers again? no speedbleeders here, have to rely on the old buddy method...

high ratio of post views to responses. Datz wut I mean.Auto lurkers!

You should not have to bleed them again. Do you think that the dealer bleeds them every time they change pads? Don't think so. However, being the happy Contour owners we are...I would bleed the front (to be a maintenance kener) and forget the rear unless you have indication to do otherwise. When is last time you changed the brake fluid?

All depends on how much time off the ol' lady will give ya!

Then why the [censored] didn't you answer it when YOU saw it? Lots of times people read the posts because they don't know the answer either and are hoping to learn something, that's why views counts track way ahead of replies. But you had time to post a smarmy comment about lack of answers when you in fact did know the answer? Swell.

And no, you don't need to re-bleed the rears unless you screw up and drain the master reservoir so low you get air in the system that way.

dont worry about master cylinder- i won't let the reservoir run low. i last changed the fluid when i changed the rear brake pads (i had to cuz i messed up and the tire rubbed against my brakeline, eventually rubbing a hole in it - resulting in no brakes going 50 mph - long story).

thanks for ur replies, and relax mfe... he did reply eventually didnt he?

The only time you MUST bleed the brakes is if you suspect air in the lines, usually via caliper replacement or hose replacement. Maintenance wise I would say at least once ever 2 years. Brake fluid moisture absorbtion is primarily based on time. So if you just did the whole system, then you are good. If you only did the rears you should do the whole system again including the clutch!

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
