I unplugged mine. i had the exact same problem. just gently pop the panel off, and there is one of those plastic connectors that you can just unplug. its easy to reconnect if you change your mind. I've never regretted unplugging that stupid thing.

now officially a troll, i guess. used to have a black 96 SE, until it broke down one too many times. now I'm hunting for a motorycle.
