I had to fill up my washer fluid tonight, I open the hood, and half of the hood insulation is on the top of the engine, and the rest is torn to hell! How expensive is this piece at Ford?

Not sure how much it cost and yah that sucks but.......There may be a silver lining. Summer is fast aproaching and alot of people have attributed the hood liner to heat soak. For the most part it helps to quiet the engine so.... I f you can live with louder "duratec music" there is no harm in yanking off what is left of it.

I'd further inspect the rest of your engine for mice. I've heard those things hide behind cowls and hoses. People start driving around and you end up smelling of roasted mice

Leave the liner out, it makes little difference in noise level but a big difference in engine bay temperatures. I have my liner from my SVT hanging on the wall in my garage to be used if I ever have to drive my baby in the winter, which I think will be next year .

Mines be off for a couple of years and I don't put it on for the winter.
As for the mice you may also want to check all the electrical wiring at least as much as you can see. They like to chew that stuff too.

Thanks for the hint on the wiring...
As for the liner, I will most likely put another one on. I still drive to the Kawarthas a fair bit, and find too much noise fatiguing. Still love the sound of the SVT Duratec, but in not too big of a dose. I know, if it's too loud, I'm too old....;)
I once found a dead mouse in the air filter box of my dad's old Audi, and we found a nest in the interior fan of his Mazda. Country livin'.......
I am dealing with other noises as well. The rear drivers' side door weatherstrip is giving me issues as well. The list of things to fix on this car is growing.

You got off lightly, read this thread:
squirrel damage
My '97 has hoodliner, '98 does not. Only difference I've noted is engine compartment is cleaner on '97, perhaps because hoodliner sits on UIM reducing airflow. Engine noise not noticeably different IMO.

If anyone is replacing their hood liner perhaps looking at a noise dampening product may be worth while instead of spending the money at the stealership. I know www.b-quiet.com has a hood liner product. Similar to the one from Dynamat. My Mystique didn't come with any hood liner at all. But it does make it easy to clean the inside of the hood though. Just wipe it down and its all purdy! L.
