Alot of issues with the CD4E are in the valve body and cylinders. Also the 96+ have a VSS with a gear that goes into the tranny. I'm willing to bet that even though it's done by wire that it is using the same spot as the Speedometer cable. I just don't see Ford changing the casting for just that.




In the case of the CD4E, a rebuild includes REPLACING the valve body.
The Aluminum cast of the original valve body is so soft that the valve bores wear prematurely.

There are differences in the CD4E Solenoid resistances and the PCM in the 95 model year,
that weren't carried forward into the 96 and later years.
There were also many revisions made to the CD4E after the 95 model year.
