Rebuilds typically don't change the valve bodies or the actually gearings just the wear parts like the clutches and the torque convertor. Unless there is a more serious problem. Alot of issues with the CD4E are in the valve body and cylinders. Also the 96+ have a VSS with a gear that goes into the tranny. I'm willing to bet that even though it's done by wire that it is using the same spot as the Speedometer cable. I just don't see Ford changing the casting for just that.
