One immediate difference is the speedometer cable. 95 has one, 96 on doesn't. I don't know that the later trannies have any way to connect them. The ECU on the 95 uses a speed sensor on the cable to determine vehicle speed and the cable works the speedo in the car. So using a later one will mean your speedo doesn't work.

I bet when the rebuild is done, they put the latest revision hardware in. A rebuilt 95 should have the same wearing pieces as the later models. I could be wrong, but this is usually how this is done.
