I didn't start this thread to fight over foreign vs. american cars. All cars have their ups and downs. The only reason I posted that thing was because I thought it was amusing, and thought possibly someone else on here would too, not start WWIII.

So calm down

what do you mean this fighting, and why calm down???and just because we are having a heated discussion how does that make us children???? ...we are just all voicing our opinions rather forcefully(from both sides)i actually am enjoying this discussion, and personally don't think it is fighting at all...we are all just voicing how we each feel...i think both sides of the argument have been very respectful, and very opinionated one way or the other so far...i say keep the heated discussions going...i am rather enjoying it...

Hehe, children -> figure of speech. No harm

The point of my original post wasn't to start an argument. But if you wanna discuss, please feel free. My other post was just my "legal disclaimer"

My 92 Z28 L98 ran 14.1s with just a Flowmaster muffler and K&N drop-ins on street tires. I'd like to see ANY fwd Honda do that with just a muffler and an air filter.

Since when have 4th gen FBodies been bad on gas? Their T56's have two overdrive gears and get excellent gas milage on the highway. If you beat the piss outta them from stop light to stop light, sure you'll get poor gas milage-- but the same can be said in any car.

I had a 6-speed LT1 1996 Z28/SS with every SLP option and it was slower than my 91 GTA, 92 Z28 and 93 Eclipse. It was also the least reliable car I've ever owned (out of 12 total) I'd take an L98 with a TPIS Mini Ram II over any LT1. L98's had mad torque but little top end power.

-Side note- I've owned 2 second gen FBodies, 5 third gen, and 1 4th gen. I don't have a mullet, I have all my teeth, I don't live in a trailer, I don't wear too many gold chains, I hate louvers, and I don't fit any other outdated FBody stereotype.

The 1/4 mile is 1320ft, not 1420 btw. Unless the Honda wants a running 100ft head start?

Sure, Hondas can be made quick. But I have countless import/sport compact magazines showing various Hondas with full intake and exhaust swaps dynoing some pathetic single digit hp increase. You need to spend mad $$$ to make them fast with turbo kits and/or engine swaps. No thanks.

I am by no means a honda lover but I can't say that I am a hater. I like the low displacement engines running 8's-11's. It just shows how far technology has come. But anyways enough babbling, I just wanted to post that the S2000 mentioned is a 13.8 stock car (magazine) and the 2002 nsx-r went 12.8. Also it is impressive how they can get the factory hp/liter so high but again just the opposite when it comes to torque . However at this point in time it would be highly uneconomical for a company to be able to produce a vehicle w/ a motor such as a 5.7 liter or for you fox body fans a 5.0 liter w/ 570 or 500 from the factory. Also I am not a huge mustang fan, BUT, I will give credit where credit is due and say that yeah the 1/4 mile times are kind of slow in SOME case but alot of that is in part of the 100 cats that are on the exhaust. About 500 bucks on a Mustang is like 3000 on a contour. It can go from mid to high 14's to low 13's and if tires possibly 12's. Once again I don't see that possible w/ a low displacement N/A motor. Like I said, I may not be a lover of the two aformentioned companies/cars but they each have their perks, and they each have the capabiliy to go REAL fast.

Just my $.02, for what it's worth.

Funny... A power UPGRADE for the Lotus Elise overseas is the b18c Integra Type R motor. Consequently, all Elises distributed in the U.S. by Sun International come equipped with this same motor... making the American version of the car actually MORE powerful than the original.

I don't understand why you're all arging that these imports are tenths of seconds behind the big-blocks... but you never bring up that they're using less than half the displacement.

An Integra Type R with intake, header and exhaust will run around a 14.1 in the hands of a good driver. I've watched them run 14.5's all day long with only a CAI.

I like Mustangs and F-bodies. My next car will be a C5 coupe with a 6-liter block swap (from the Sierra), bored and stroked to 427ci, cammed and spraying around a 200 shot. Word to your moms.

IMO, who gives a damn about HP/L and how much displacement the motor has to get a certain 1/4 mile time? If the car is fast, then thats all that matters.

HP/L instantly means nothing when the (old, outdated) big block Chevelle in the next lane wipes the track with you. At that point, it doesnt matter what gas mileage your car gets, or how much "tech" or how many cams your motor has in it. Guess what, after all that, you still lost. New technology like VETEC has meaning, and a purpose, but dont gripe when you lose to a V8 just because you have more HP/L.

IMO whats better about starting with a bigger motor is you can drive it on the street, and still run very fast. I know several people that have 10 or 11 second Mustangs and drive them to work everyday. With all the work involved in making a motor with the same displacement as a big bottle of Coke run 10s, its not near as likely. I like dual purpose cars.

Plus, for all the people that say DOHC is the future in drag racing, why is it that top fuel and funny cars are making gross amounts of power by using those "old" pushrods?
I dont see them using VETEC anytime soon.

I can appreciate any fast car, but I would still rather have good old V8 TORQUE in a daily driver. Thats why I still have my 312 Ford pickup. The Contour gets better gas mileage (but not a whole lot better), and has such comforts like A/C and cruise control, but I still like that hard pull I get when I stomp on my V8.....

I agree 110%. Could have said it better than that. It's virtually impossible to make high horsepower N/A in a low displacement vehicle and be reliable to drive everyday. "No Replacement for Displacement"

You're incorrect. I just wish parts weren't so damn expensive for imports.

Because of helping my brother do his 3.0 swap, I am so sick of technology...I'm going out later this month and buying a 95' Mustang GT. Good ole' torquey pushrods! I can't wait! [censored] Technology!
