My buddy had a similar problem...

What happened was he put in a new stick and when he shifted into Park it didn't register as in Park and the key would not come out...

Make sure the car is in Park with the button up and everything and try again...also moving the wheel a bit helps

It has to be getting caught on something. You may also try pulling the key out until it gets stuck. then push it in a bit and slightly turn it one way. then try pulling it out.

Just leave the key in . With such a bad resale value , who would steal a contour !! HeHeeeee JUST KIDDING . turn the steering wheel from left to right as you pull on the key . My key will not go in unless the steering wheel is centered - the wheels facing straight ahead.
