I presume when you're gently pushing, the motor in fact takes over and brings the antenna down?
Most usual cause is mast has been slightly bent. They can be gently straightened but watch you don't kink it. Lubrication rarely does any good IMO. New mast can be obtained from Ford (about $50.CAD)but not the innards.
I have one with innards problems (just kept on whirring)so it's down and out at the moment (FM reception OK, AM zilch).
