Can anyone tell me how long it would take to replace two rear parking brake cables and two rear brake pads on an CSVT? My dealership wants to charge me $300 for labor (4 hrs x $75 hour I assume. plus $183 in parts = total $483!!!) Is that way too outrageous? Seems like that to me.

I appreciate any response I get. Thanks guys.

You could replace the rear pads in about 15 minutes per side. Very easy with hinged caliper on our tours. You usually need to pull the caliper and rotor for turning anyway, so figure about 45 min. per side. Dunno about the cable replacement, is replacement really necessary?

Seems a little steep.

Rear disk brake pads take 15 min/side, in my driveway using car jack and hand tools. No rotor turning/replacement included.

Handbrake cable requies hoisting, heat shield removal, perhaps lower exhaust as well as re & re console, should be 2hrs for pro.

If labor includes turning rotors 4 hrs would be high but not excessive.

I would get estimate elsewhere if you are unable to do it yourself.

Guys,

thanks a lot for all your replies. you are all a very cool bunch. I gave them a go ahead (because of parking brake cables, hoisting and heat shields removal). I do want the parking brakes to work fine - it's one of those things that may save future troubles. But I still feel raped.

Other thing with the parking brake cables...he's probably going to have to pull the console around the parking brake handle in order to release the tension on the cable assembly. So factor that time in, too.
