You know, considering the amount of paint chips (and rust!!!) on my hood, I don't think its that bad of an idea. When my brother owned the car he had the hood repainted, so most of the paint chips are less than two years old. The roads are brutal in spring here; all busted up from freezing and then thawing.
Try to avoid bras that use magnets to adhere to the car. Water can get trapped underneath the magnet and damage the finish. The same thing happens with those magnetic US flags people are putting on their cars.
