My wife drives our Contour pretty normal (i.e., non aggressively). Our WP failed at 39000 miles and was built in the US.

Also, although the CEG is an "enthusiast group" by name, I don't think that ALL of the members are enthusiasts. Some of us are just trying to learn how to fix our cars, and save some money while we are at it.

So far, I have replaced the cabin air filter, AM/FM/CD radio, serpentine belt, passenger power window regulator, and spark plugs. This weekend I plan on replacing the crankshaft pulley.

I think that it is great that there is a place that I (and others) can go to and learn about the hidden art of car repair.

I'm not sure if mine was the original, but we replaced a black-impeller WP in mine with the NAPA metal one the other week at the 78K mile mark. The impeller itself didn't appear the worse for wear, but the bearing was starting to go.

If you do a search you'll find A LOT of postings.
If you are going to change the pump out, why wait another 20k ?? Do it now and save yourself the worry. I'm sure youll find quite a few blown w/p's well before 50k.

Just out of curiosity, how many SVT owners have had the pumps go? I am warrantied until 120,000 kms, but would like to know if I should anticipate difficulties. Thanks!

Mine went at 60k, just like clockwork. Before I found CEG, so I am darn lucky that I happened to look at my temp needle as it climbed well into the red. Your delaer is right; if you have the black impeller water pump, you are living on borrowed time.

...and no i'm not going to be one of those people going 30mph on the on ramp because i'm scared something on my car is going to break.

When was the switch made from the black (evil) to white (less evil) impellers? Sure hope it was before my E0 SVT was made

Mine went at 84k miles. No warning just noticed that the temp gauge was pegged in the red. At 84k it wasn't too unexpected for me but was annoying that there wasn't any warning. Anyway, talking with the mechanics adn other people at my dad's work and they hadn't seen any major issues with the wp. Kinda weird.
