It is probably right to assume that CEG people are more aggressive in driving and more vocal in sounding off in this website.
However, I and many others truly believe that the stock plastic impeller wp is a flawed design that is prone to premature failure. When weighed against the potential consequences of destroying one's engine, changing it before it fails (less than $100) is cheap insurance!
I have been around cars all of my life and pumps in general for 20 years of my professional experience. I have never seen this type of catastrophic failure, without warning in any other case of pump malfunction. Usually a water pump will give some sort of warning of impending doom, like leaking or noise, but this one goes in a hurry.
I procrastinated in changing mine. Luckily I was near home when it did go and was able to get back in the garage without any damage.
I would definitely urge anyone to change it ASAP, before you're stuck out on the road or your engine is blown!
