Don't have "run on" after engine turned off. Based upon input from others, I am going to try using premium fuel in my next fill-up. I'll let you know what happens.

Before you try the premium fuel, I forgot to mention that the timing belt may be the cause of the noise. It has been known by many, including myself, to slap against the cover causing a marble type noise. The cause is a poorly engineered cover that does not allow clearance for the timing belt. I would start by putting a few washers between the cover and the engine, and if that eliminates the noise, you could then buy a new higher clearance cover for less than $15.00 from your local ford dealership.

OK guys, I put filled the tank w/ 91 octane, and added some 104 octane booster, and when I drove up a steep hill, I could STILL hear it. The sound was a little quieter, though, but not much. My buddy in the passanger seat said it defenitely sounded like detonation. So can I assume its the timing belt still? It only does it under load.

Almost never use A/C. So it does it regardless.
