Help!

I seem to have a recurring problem where occasionally after a heavy rain I find a puddle of water resting on the front passenger side floormat. Other than direction of rain I don't know why I would take on water sometimes but not all the time.

I've been to two dealerships. The water guy ( I guess these places have people that specialize in finding water leaks) at the first place couldn't reproduce a leak. The second place tried twice and claimed they found the leak and sealed it only to have a puddle appear after the next rain.

Does anyone know where this water might be coming from? I've tried searching the problems forum but the only thing I found was a reference to water traveling through the door and sort of dribbling down to the floor from the bottom of the door. In my case it looks like the water is coming from somewhere under the dash.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Happens every once in a while to me. It's usually related to the angle the car is parked at (with respect to horizontal). I think the water can make it under the window seals and to the inside of the door.

Fixes

1. There is a drain hole somewhere on the bottom of the door, make sure it is free (I've never done this just remember reading it somewhere)
2. Just clean the seals around the door and make sure they haven't slid out of alignment at all.

Just cleaning the seals ended the problem for me.

You know, I have had this same problem many times. My puddle has never been on the floor mat though, it has always been under it. I presumed that the water was coming up from beneath the car or dripping down along the floorpan of the car.

It has taken a toll on my carpet, but I have not bothered to take it in to the dealer.

I have this problem as well. I had the windshield resealed (it actually did leak), but the problem is still there. Someday I will take the cowl panel off of the car and see if it is coming through there.

I had this exact problem - it's the vapor barrier in the door.

If you take off the door panel, there you'll find a gray piece of foam-like material. It's attached to the metal door with a bead of sticky rubbery "glue". The glue doesn't stick so well, and near the bottom of the door especially, it lets water drip in.

Usually this will occur in heavy rain when you've been driving a lot or at higher speed. The front tires kick the water up and it leaks in between the bottom of the door and on top of the door sill.

Check this out - I'm sure you'll find this is it if your carpet is wet under the floor mat.

I had this problem on the driver's door - fixed under warranty. Now my passenger door does it, but I can fix it myself. It hasn't mattered in a while - no rain and the 'Tour is in storage for another week.

Good luck.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll start looking at the door. This is a very frustrating problem to have.

I had this problem last year. After a hard rain I would have an inch of standing water in my floorboard. frown The water would drip from behind my glovebox.

Take a water hose and run water down the windshield and into the plastic grill at the bottom of the windshield. If you start to get water dripping behind the glovebox, then the water is coming in at the cabin air filter.

Click here on how to get to that filter. Click Here When you get under the grill, you will probably see how the seal around the filter has deteriorated.

Same here, but not from the door. Mine came from under the dash, I could feel water around the interior fan motor cover. If you take off the left front plastic cover around the windshield wipers you'll see where the micron air filter goes. That's held against the firewall, check around there, even add some silicon caulk around the edges of the filter assembly and the firewall, that should help a lot.

I have a problem like this too. When it rains, I get a puddle of water under my mat, but the mat remains dry. I am going to try all these fixes, but my carpet is already ruined... -Nick

I think I'll try that cabin airfilter area first.
That's easier that taking the door panel off.

I'm pretty sure the water is coming from above because I have the BAT rubber floormats and that's where the water collects.

I guess I'll have fun playing in the water this weekend.

Thanks everyone,

George
