for us pre-98's we have the new cupholder. I just bought
it from the ford store with the new bezel for about 50. $48.88 to be exact. It was a MUCH more snug fit but I just gave a light (ok maybe a hard one) smack and it went in. These are different in the fact that they don't snap up. You pull up and push to the side. I think I can get a large or maybe even super size drink in there. I've only gotten mediums so far and they fit fine with a little room to spare.

And before the cupholder. I always got the drinks from the fast food places. Drank it, put it between my legs and when I didn't need (yes need) anymore, I poored it out and put the empty container in the bag. (I used to have an eclipse 1st gen with no cupholders. I spilled hella large amounts of soda in it. Lessons learned...) With 20ozs, I just shut the door and stuck them to my left side. Between the door and the seat. Perfect fit and easy access.

i don't know about everbody else but on my 98 svt,all i had to do was to remove the rubber insert from my drivers side cupholder...underneath the rubber insert the space is wider and deeper,and it is tapered...its fits everything i've put in it perfectly...it holds a can perfectly,and all the fastfood cups(including supersize)fit just fine too...it holds them securely..

the passenger side is different under the insert,it is just flat and as useless as with the insert in it...

just pull your drivers side insert out and see if it is like mine,if so you will not need to waste your money on that cup holder insert...easy and free fix...the insert can be put back in for aesthetic purposes,but mine seems to always stay in the trunk...
