Hey guys, I'm a new here, just joined the community Anyways I'm planning on purchasing a new /used/ vehicle sometime this summer and I'm seriously thinking about the SVT version of the Contour. I currently have '98 V6 SE Sport w/5-speed that I keep stock /except for window tint and stuff like that/ and I'm pleased with it. However I need something more sporty. CSVT is a good choice, I'm interested in purchasing the '00 model /can finance for longer/. Like the idea of 200hp/169tq. and .9g on a dry skidpad Well I have a few questions for you guys. First of all what performance gain can I expect from the Superchip combined with K&N filter?! Top speed difference /143mph stock right?/, 0-60time??! Also I would immediately purchase a set of 17" rims and lowering springs /probably H&R/. What do y'all guys think about set up like that?! Is there a short-throw shifter available? I talked to a few dealers and they would sell their SVTs for $11K with around 40K miles on 'em, is this a good deal??! And last but not least, what is the main difference in the performance between my car and the CSVT, cuz I never drove one. PS: I have mpore questions, how much it would be to get a chip and have it tuned properly? Like Superchip or so. Just in case that all what I would like to do to the engine would be a chip and CAI. Is it worth it? I've heard that chip works only sometimes??!! Whats the deal with it?

Thanks guys! How about: #1 B&M Short Throw shifter ($165), SHO Shop CAI ($149), H&R lowering springs ($205), SHO Underdrive pulley ($199) and High-Flow BAT Y-pipe ($305) #2 B&M Short Throw shifter ($165), SHO Shop CAI ($149), H&R lowering springs ($205) and some performance tuned chip (around $250) Which one is better? #1 or #2?? Also I'm thinking about 17" Exel TZ-10 Silver or HyperBlack depends on the color of a vehicle....any suggestions? Will the 17's hurt the performace of the car??! I've heard that 18's would but what about 17's??? Anybody? Thanks in advance

Neither...
#3 B&M short throw (yes), KKM intake, Miks or custom heat shield, Dual-mode Damper instead of the SHO Shope pullies, don't get the Superchip if you're doing more mods eventually, H&Rs (yes), get new struts too, 40k miles on the stock ones = they're shot (meaning you put H&Rs on them, the car will ride like crap), Konis or ST200 struts would do fine.
As far as wheels, it's all a matter of weight. Stay under 21-22lbs per wheel (stock is 20-21) and it's unlikely you'll see a performance decrease. (be it 17 or 18")
Download the BAT catalog for hte Contour. (www.batinc.net)

Ok man, now English is my 2nd language, so what the #ell is Dual-mode damper ??! Also why do I need Heat Shield? How much performance gain can I expect and how much would it cost me to have it all installed /excluding the rims and suspension upgrades/. Last one, what about the Superchip? What if all what Id like to do the engine would be chip + the KKM Intake?! Would that be a good idea? Cuz I've heard that the Superchips works only sometimes, whats the deal with it? Thanks!

It's a crank pulley with a 'rubber attachement' that absorbs crank vibrations. (www.timgrimes.com) (DMD)
[quuote]also why do I need Heat Shield?
You don't *need* one, but during the warmer months, it'll help with blocking out all the engine heat. The hotter hte air, the the less power your engine makes. (in a nutshell)

If you can install the suspension, you can do the rest as well. KKM intake is a 10 min job, DMD might take longer. (prolly $50 to get it put on)

A regular Superchip program is calibrated for an engine with NO mods. (ok, maybe a KKM)

Say why don't we just speak Czech?! Mozna teda jeste ten heat shield. Takze v pripade, ze pro zvyseni vykonu bych se rozhodl jen pro ten chip a intake, myslis si ze by to fungovalo. Nekteri si stezuji, ze ten chip nefunguje tak jak ma.... Narust na vykonu by mohl byt tak cca 15koni a 25Nm tocaku, to by bohate stacilo....Co myslis?!

H&Rs ~ $200 Koni struts ~ $550 or ST200 struts ~ $200 KKM ~ $100 Heat shiled ~ $65 or make your own Superchip ~$200 Wheels ~ $how much can you afford? You can get a set of 17" wheels and tires for under $1000. It goes up from there.
Installation varies, but all of those you can do yourself if you're mechanically inclined.
Expect to pay about $150-250 to get the struts/springs installed. All the rest you can DEFINITELY do yourself.

That's right. IF it's callibrated for a stock SVT, and you add a y-pipe, catback, MAF, TB, the chip will prolly need recalibration.

Nope, no way. You'll be lucky to see 5-6hp. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the chip, unless you can go on a dyno and see what you make pre-chip and after-chip. FYI, check out the FAQs and How-Tos on the main page. Well worth the time it takes to read them all.
Now go get that SVT.
