so last nite i took my car to get an oil change at this place called Casey Automoive...
the MGR comes in with this look on his face..like my car was a child and i had abused her in some way. i liked that. it showed concern for his patients. he says... you know the rear tires are in bad shape? yes, yes i do. i have a bend rear control arm that needs to be replaced and i could only afford 2 out of the 4 tires. the rears will be replaced soon. then he says.. and the check engine light and coolant light? so i explain about the touchy coolant sensor and that there isn't actually a leak. and i tell him about my banks 1 & 2 running lean codes. (171 & 174). this seems to satisfy him. then i ask about the knock...

he says that the knock is related to the CEL codes. says its a bad intake gasket and the sound i here is too much air coming in and its more of a ping than a knock. says its pretty common.

so i think i shall do things in this order... as i couldn't ever find a vacuum leak for the CEL codes...
i will replace the intake gasket and clean the UIM and TB completely.
then i will drop the pan to look for the metal oatmeal. just to be on the safe side.

i really hope this guy is right. i think i would much rather replace a intake gasket than screw with the other option.

cross your fingers everybody.

P.S.
anyone wanna help me remove my intake and replace the gasket????

thanks again guys.

tim.
