I've seen a bunch of posts about changing the bulb but none on how to get the clock off a 98 (with anti-theft). Does it just pop out? Any help on removal is appreciated. I already got a new bulb, if I can just learn how to get to the old one.

Just pops out. Use a jeweler's screwdriver or some other small-bladed tool and carefully pry up one edge and it will pop out.

Any particular edge first? I've tried top and bottom, and it doesn't seem to want to come out. Are there locking tabs? I'm afraid I'll force it and break the whole thing. PLastic, you know.

no tabs, just small metal leaf springs. might be easier if you start the one of the oval ends.

Upper right oval end. Get a wire tester with a sharp point and carefully wedge it in. When a gap appears, use a jeweler's screwdriver to separate the clock and dash.

correct use the small jewelers flathead and CAREFULLY pry into the very right end/slightly upper right end. it'll start to pull out. then slowly continue around. the screwdriver will push it the soft plastic if u use too much pressure pushing back w/ the screwdriver

God damn this is a very easy thing to do, I have pulled this piece out of cars at the junk yard at least a dozen times, and have sold them, they are so easy to install. I can't believe how far this post has made it. My only thing to say is that the piece pops out kinda hard, use a small straight screw driver (very small), and pry the [censored] but try not to leave marks. its that simple.

i dont know about your clocks ( but i think they are the same )but here in the UK the clock has two small holes over the actual display, this is under the recess of the top edge of the illuminated display, all u have to do is pop in some circlip pliers( or two very thin screwdrivers ) and pull, u dont have to pry against the clock surround or dash surround,
BTW , its what the holes are there for, can u imagine ford messing around trying to get the clock out ?

That looks like the Mondeo trip computer. The buttons are soft (they change function depending on the mode.)
