MY FUEL GAUGE WAS NOT WORKING. WAS THIS WAY WHEN I GOT THE CAR USED. TRACED PROBLEM BACK TO THE SENDING UNIT. REPLACED PUNP AND SENDING UNIT. GAUGE NOW REGISTERS, BUT WITH THE KEY OFF, STILL REGISTERS SAME LEVEL. IF I REMOVE PLUG FROM TOP OF PUMP,AND TURN KEY ON, THE PUMP RETURNS TO EMPTY. WHICH IS NORMAL. MOST CARS GO TO EMPTY WITH KEY OFF. IS IT NORMAL FOR THE CONTOUR TO SHOW FUEL LEVEL WITH KEY OFF. I HAD THE GAUGE OUT OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TO TEST WITH OHM METER. WHEN I REPLACED THE CLUSTER BACK IN THE DASH, THE METER WAS REGISTERING. BUT WHEN I TURNED THE KEY ON, WITH CONNECTOR DISCONNETED, GAUGE RETURNED TO EMPTY. COULD HAVE I HAVE THE GUAGE NOT CALIBRATED WRONG. THANKS
