OK, I'm in on the Tricom scanner if it's 20% off.
Does this come with a good instruction booklet or manual as well that offers a clear explanation of how to set it up and how to read results?
Also,is the software upgradable at a reasonable cost for future applications?
Let me know about the pricing and other details for ordering.
Thanks in advance.

There is an online help manual, but it is probably one of the weaker parts of the software package. It is relatively easy to set up, but it takes a while to get an understanding of how OBD-II operates, especially which of the 250 different data values to capture for your specific problem.

Upgrades are available free for the lifetime of the product at the http://www.obd-2.com. I have owned the software for about a year and have downloaded about a half-dozen upgrades (he does one about every two months or so).
You can actually download the software for free even before you purchase it. This way you can take a look at the software and manual provided.

Here is a general question. I currently have a 95, so this wouldn't work on my car, and I know that. However, it would be great to have, and I could use it on other family members cars.
My question is, OBDI started in like 1988, and only lasted for 7 years through 1995. Now I'm not looking to buy a new car anytime soon, and it's been 7 years since OBDII was first introduced. Does anyone know of anything that suggests a new On Board Diagnostic will be introduced in the near future?
Also, I noticed on the webpage that Full-Time Students already get a 20% discount. Does this mean I would get an additional 20% off?

I believe that another standard called CAN (Controller Area Network - a European standard) is starting to be implemented in some cars this year (2003), and will become fully implemented in 1998.
While researching the new CAN protocol, I came across the following informative articles:
