Which would be faster in a quarter mile race? I would think the Mazda should have an edge, but I've noticed some skepticism about it's performance on this forum...
Also, what does the 6 dyno at? I would think it should be able to hit around 180/165... which should put it on par with some of the fastest SVT's before any mods are performed. 5-speed of course...
I ask because I'm in the market for a new car, and I'm considering the 6, but wouldn't overlook a low-mileage SVT if the price was right. Handling and utility are important to me, but so is the ability to run well into the 14s without too much effort.

Driver's race IMHO, but every time I say something in the D&D forum, I get flamed, so you might wanna consider someone else's opinion first. The 6 isn't as much of a handler, I don't think. I could be wrong though.

I'd say a stock 5 speed 6 and a stock SVT will be a drivers race as well. They would be pretty close in the handling department as well. The Mazda 6s auto that I drove seemed to handle as well, if not better than my SVT did when it was stock.

Wow... so the 3.0 with variable valve timing is no faster than the SVT 2.5?

As it has been stated many times recently, the Mazda 6 seems to be a tad overrated in the power department. It also weighs a good bit more than the SVT.

Stock for stock, identical driver, I'd give the nod to the 6.
It does, after all, run a 6.7 sec. 0-60...

I agree that the 6 has an slight advantage over the SVT.

The ATX was spoken about being weak.. but think about it.. with that 3L engine.. it has some balls...
