java that is not really an answer, since they do tell you to change auto trans fluid. There must be some reason why there is this difference in recomendations. I am not trying to dispute whether or not this is a good idea, just wondering why mfr would not say to change it when they do say to chage atx. Does mtx not get as hot as atx can or???

I had two chrysler mtx's they had same recommendation...no need to change fluid. I did not and never had trans problems...other things led to demise of the vehicles at about 120K mi. frown

In the case of automatics, another consideration is if fluid has never been changed on high mileage car it is better not to change (or so I hear). Would this be the case for mtx also?

I think if the fluid has not been changed for a long time, you better get a complete flush a few time! Dislodge old deposite my ass, you'll only get more deposite build up not giving the tranny adaquet lubrication.

Here is example http://www.goa-northcoastoil.com/tips/atfchnges.html says "CAUTION: If the fluid in your transmission has never been changed and the transmission has more than 50,000 miles on it, it might be too late to change it! Changing the fluid on a high mileage transmission can sometimes lead to transmission problems because of accumulated varnish deposits and wear in the clutches."

Is there a how to anywhere for bleeding the clutch?

Easiest way is to loosen bleeder on top of tranny, fill resevoir to top and walk away. Come back in about ten minutes and you will see that the resevoir is low, fill it up to normal level, tighten bleeder and your done. This is the easiest way to bleed it yourself without introducing air into the line. Also works with brakes.

That's talking about an automatic transmission.

We are talking about the MTX-75 Manual transmission. Not any other one!

Don't change your fluid if you don't want to, but don't come crying when your syncros die... :p

I had asked above "In the case of automatics, another consideration is if fluid has never been changed on high mileage car it is better not to change (or so I hear). Would this be the case for mtx also?"

Maybe I did not understand this answer that was given "I think if the fluid has not been changed for a long time, you better get a complete flush a few time! Dislodge old deposite my ass, you'll only get more deposite build up not giving the tranny adaquet lubrication."

I thought he was disagreeing with the claim that for an automatic it is better to leave it alone if high mileage and never been changed. Maybe not now that I re-read it.

Terry> What's XR-3 Friction Mod? Is that the same as Ford's own FM? Can this be purchased at local auto supply stores? Which is better... XR-3 or Ford's FM?
BTW, what brand of MTX oil do you use?

I was disagreeing with that you say don't change the fluid because it's been too long since it's been changed. Re-read that statement in the page you posted. It didn't say don't change it anywhere! I says if it hasn't been changed, it might be too late because the tranny might be destroyed one way or the other. Change the fluid, and the tranny might last longer because it'll stay lubricated, and cooled.

If what you're saying is true, then I don't think people that haven't changed their motor oil in a long time should change their motor oil neither because of all the build-up!
