Hey All,
Just wanted to start by apologizing for not posting anything here in a while. Been a lot going on. Finally, got around to rebuilding my UIM/LIM and I am very happy I took the time to do it. Good documenation with a very nice parts list in the FAQ section by the way. As soon as I got the UIM off, I noticed that the only half the secondaries were opening up. After 140,000 miles I guess that is to be expected. (yup, I drive a lot) Good thing I ordered those linkage gromets with all the gaskets! The second half probably were stuck shut anyway with all the carbon build up. Cleaned everything out real good, got it all back together, cleared out the PCM, and the P0171/174 have been off ever since. WooHoo! The car is once again purring at idle and with all the gunk cleared and the secondaries opening, I get a LOT more power!
Enough rambling, I am just excited, but on to my question. I noticed after checking everything over that there is about a 1/4" gap between the UIM and the LIM where the UIM bolts fasten it all together. I noticed this gap on all 6 bolts. It seems to me that this is suppossed to be like this, because the rubber/metal collars are touching the LIM and not popping up on the UIM. Also seems correct because I torqued everything to spec and if it wasn't seated properly there would be a major vaccumm leak. Can someone please confirm that these gaps are normal?
Just wanted to post the top part for anyone else that is suffering from a PO171/PO174. Like most others here, I would recommend the rebuild anyway if you got some miles.
On a side note, since I was at the dealer anyway, I ordered the trunk spring, installed it, and the trunk pops everytime now with the release lever and the remote!
Thanks Very Much!
