Hah, okay, fair enough. It's not like this is a touchy subject or anything. But whenever people start talking about people, or groups, and whatnot, you a ton of opinions, obviously. Healthy debates is all.

Eminem is a F'in ICON! A person that can come to stardom with that crappy past is number 1 in my book. His lyrics are ingenious. If you don't like rap, yeah you won't like hi, but take a minute and listen to the lyrics.

I can't stand rap in general, either (I just can't identify with it), but when Mr. Mathers is on the radio, I quit flipping channels.

The guy has a seriously talented way with lyrics, despite being an apparent twirp in public.

Right there you loose all credibility! As you said, you don't like rap. Therefore, I'll assume you don't listen to it. He says what most people think at some point in time but obviously never acted upon. I've been that pissed at my mom before, god bless her sole, but later I realized I was wrong and she was only lookin out for me. I've also been pissed at a girl so much that I've thought of killing her. Obviously no more than a passing thought, though. He just took it a step further attracting attention of foolish conservatives and censorship freaks. As a moderate Republican myself, I think in his second album he stated the real problem. BAD PARENTING!!! He also states near the end that he is only expressing his agressions and thoughts, he's never actual done those things, i.e. his mother and ex are still alive.

Write one rap song and with an original beat and then you have room to talk. He doesn't ride on old rifs written 20 years ago like most two-bit "rap" artists, coughJay-ZcoughPuffycough. DMX, Snoop, Dre, Outkast, and Em, lets not forget J5, Dialated Peoples, and the Roots all great.

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Because I don't listen to rap every day doesn't mean I lose all credibility to state my opinion of it. It doesn't mean that I've NEVER heard rap and I'm just clueless. I've listened to the 8 Mile theme song, many times, as I have heard others of his, mostly videos on MTV. Honestly, I don't know of a lot of people that do think of killing anyone, for any reason, because to me, that's a bit...wrong. So I guess you and Eminem are two in the same.

Also, to be honest, I can't really listen to any 5 rap songs, and make any HUGE distinction as far as beats. Rap is a bunch of bass, played in cars with big-ass sub woofers. That's all I ever hear. Granted, my opinion on it is somewhat clouded because I DO KNOW, that those who listen to only one kind of music (me) have trouble distinguishing the little tiny things that make each song unique in rap, etc. It all sounds the same to me. Especially the lyrics. I'll give Eminem that he does have "original" lyrics as far as rap is concerned. I'm happy that he strayed from talking about bi-tches and bling bling and pimped out cadillacs, etc.

Sorry, im siding with Andy with this one. True is lyrical content is Genuis and sometimes he does go overboard, but you can't deny that he is an Icon. I for one love his music and applaud him in his role in 8 Mile. I think he is looked down upon for speaking his mind, his fears and his pain. When all he is trying to do is get the things that hurt him the most out into the open. in stead of speaking of trivial problems between raps (al though some times he does) he speaks form the heart...something a lot of rapper have lost.
Though sometimes i do not agree with what he says, i acept the good and the bad and hope he stays around for a long time.

As for his music, what it comes down to is freedom of speach....and the freedom of thoes to change the channel if you don;t like it!
