Okay today I put on my optimzed throttle body on my 98 contour SVT, I bought on CEG through the classifieds from JBM Performance. Anyway stamped on the back of it said 4.6? like a stang. And it was shaped differently than mine was, But it bolted up, I had to modifiy the throttle cable and a litle bit had to be cut off the spring action thing because at full throtle it would hit the intake manifld. I had to buy a new TPS for my svt because I could not get the old one off, so when it was all back together I started it up and it idled realy high for a moment then it dropped to about 1000rpm and stayed there, Then drove it and it would not drop rpms it mainly stayed around 4000 rpm,and my check engine light came on. My question is since it said 4.6 on the tb I think it did come of a mustang because of the mods I did to make it fit, should I buy a stang 4.6 TPS? Help me please. Thanks

Yep! Sounds like you got a Stang TB. Here is some interesting reading that might give you something to go on.

It is not recommended to upgrade to this large of a TB. Plus the TPS will have to be replaced with one from the Stang, unless yours came with one. Since you could not get your old one off, sounds like the TB did not come with one. So you would have to get the Stang TPS, but I would try to get my money back.

I have one on my SVT but I run forced induction. It's a definate benefit if you are FI but not so much for N/A. There should be a grommit on top and under that is an allen screw. Close it. This is for idle control.

I ordered one from him for $65 also. I assumed I would need an SVT TPS since I am just an SE. So I emailed him the question about the Mustang TPS. I hope he emails me back before he mails me mine.

from www.1stfordparts.com a 1998 Ford Mustang TPS is
Electrical, Powertrain Control, Throttle Position Sensor, Mustang, 4.6L $32.98retail $20.12, your price.

So $20 isn't to bad of a price, I had just wished he would sell it for $85 and include this.

2. I think Demons meaning of "highly modified" is forced induction, exhaust & a hugh air filter.

See you have to have an engine that can breath very well to get any gains out of that size TB. The reason it alone would cause a power loss is because you create an opening in the air stream, which causes the air flow to slow down.

What I mean is that for air to flow smoothly it has to have a smooth path to follow like so...

-------------| Tube
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~> Air Flow
-------------| Tube
Not this...
---------/\------| Tube
~~~~~~/\/\/\/\/--> Air Flow
---------\/------| Tube

...the enlarged portion above is the larger throttle body. See how in the center of the tube I have the "/\" marks? They represent what happens to the air as it travels into the larger throttle body. Once the air encounters the smaller bore of the UIM, it has nowhere to go so it just sort of pools around in the throttle body. This cause the lose of air traveling into the UIM and even slows it down. Hince the power loss.

This is basic fluid mechanics, pressure vs. volume, so I hope I got all this explained properly and in a way that you understand it.

Why don't you just tell the guy to give you your money back and get something more applicable?

I know I saw the classified ad where they were billed as optimized CSVT TBs.

I can't see making all sorts of expensive changes just to make a TB work.
