When I use the remote trunk release on the car, it will unlock the trunk, but then a loud buzzing sound comes from the trunk latch area for about a 1/2 second. It does this consistently.

All other aspects of the trunk work fine. That is, both the trunk release lever near passenger seat, and the trunk key unlock the trunk without any buzzing sounds.

Anyone have a clue?

thats is normal every tour does it. its the locking mechanism making the noise, something that is not cable driven, but motor driven

I don't think that this is normal.

We have had the car for almost 7 years and it just started doing this a few months ago.

probably the motor for the truck release going bad, getting stuck in the open posisiton for a few seconds..
the motor/selenoid part is shaped like a pistol....well kinda like one... there is a spring in there that once the small motor goes off and the drive is pushed into the open postion there is a spring that brings the selenoid back into the closed position so the motor will stop moving... it might need to be cleaned up with some thing like rubbing alcohol so it will not stick... the one i replaced on a 96 contour had a broken plastic gear so i could not fix it, cost of the new part was like $65 about 4 yrs. ago.........
